Confidence – Brain or Body

When you feel confident, presuming you do sometimes feel confident, where do you feel it? Can you feel it in your brain or is it in your thorax (i.e. middle part of your body)? Better yet, why do I ask?

Well if you think about it, part of our mission here at Trader Psyches is to teach traders of all stripes how to use the message in Gladwell’s blink to assist in the d/m (that is decision making) process. The zillion copies it has sold prove the interest in it but the practical parts about what I read – sort of the “just do it” related to using your instantaneous impressions seem frankly impossible.

And I honestly still feel that most traders are for good reason, stuck in their heads. So, I ask this simple question – when you feel confident where does it hurt?

Had a small chuckle when I read ‘When you are confident, where does it hurt?’ – ‘In the account’ was my immediate thought, lol. (As a many time victim of the ‘I can just add more because I know it simply has to do X, because I couldn’t be THAT wrong three times’ type swing trade.)

Where in the body? Not sure yet. Its more of a glow that goes with the calm that replaces the confident when its right.

Anyway, as I’m loving what I’m learning from your house I prefer this wonderful new idea of just feeling that confidence, which ironically allows it to dissipate and foster calm rather than cocky trigger pulls, with resulting increased access to information on both sides of the trade. And thereby allowing us in and out gracefully, all the time increasing the ability to spot the twin impostors of victory and defeat.

4 awesome entries in last 2 days. 4 lousy exits. 2 awesome trades I talked myself out of, instead of just talking about my feelings. I’m sure we should have met last month…

    Travel Well

Should the question perhaps be, When you feel confident where does it tingle?? :)

Really good question. I hurt all over when I am confident. It is like a unified feeling in my body. No one part is dominate, like when I am not confident. When I am not confident the feelings are swirling in my head or in my gut.
